Personal Website

The founder's own site — product analytics, data work and the record behind the studio.

What it is for

The work behind this studio is spread across three places that do not talk to each other: an app listing, a GitHub account, and a resume PDF. The personal site puts the whole record on one page — the product and data analytics, the dashboards, the apps, the internship and the businesses — and links each claim to the thing that proves it rather than to a description of it.

Who it is for

Prospective clients and employers deciding whether to work with the person behind the studio, plus anyone who found one app and wants to see the rest of the work before trusting the studio with a build.

How to use it

  1. 1

Open the home page. It asks three questions — hiring, commissioning or reviewing — and jumps to the section that answers yours instead of making you scroll a portfolio from the top.

  2. 2

Use Experience for the Stuffmatic internship and the two businesses run end to end, with what was actually owned in each.

  3. 3

Open Work for the finished builds. Every project lists its stack and links to the live thing or its repository, so the claim can be checked rather than taken on trust.

  4. 4

Use Evidence for education and certifications; each certification links to its real verification page.

  5. 5

Send an enquiry through the contact section or by email. The form composes a message in your own mail client and sends nothing until you press send.

Why not something else

Each row names the thing you would otherwise install, because “better” is meaningless without saying better than what.

How Personal Website compares to common alternatives
If you would otherwise useWhat changes with Personal Website
A LinkedIn profileLinkedIn gives you a job history. This gives you the work itself — the dashboard you can open, the repository you can read and the certification you can verify, in one place and without an account.
A resume PDFA resume can only make claims. The site links each one to a live build or a verification page, and can be corrected the same day instead of at the next application.
The studio siteThe studio site answers "should I commission a build?". The personal site is the person rather than the business — the analytics work and the record around it, including the parts that are not apps.
A template portfolioEvery section states what was done, what it was built with and where to check it. Unfinished work is labelled unfinished rather than given a launch date it has not earned.

What's inside

A start for each reader

The home page asks whether you are hiring, commissioning or reviewing and moves you to that section, so three different visitors do not wade through the same long scroll.

Work with proof attached

Five builds — a live analytics dashboard, the course, two shipping products and a competition entry — each with its stack and a link to the dashboard or repository.

Analytics you can open

The OLA ride-booking analysis runs as a real dashboard over 50,000 records, rather than as a screenshot of one.

Experience and businesses

The internship and both ventures are described by what was owned — pricing, inventory, forecasting, reporting — not by a job title alone.

Verifiable evidence

Every certification links to its verification page, so the claim can be confirmed by the reader instead of accepted.

One clear way to reply

The contact form composes a mail in your own client. There is no account, no mailing list and nothing stored on the server.

What it doesn't do

Stated here rather than left to be discovered after installing.

  • It is a record, not a blog. Writing appears only when something finished is worth writing up, so there is no weekly post to keep up with.
  • There is no account or saved state; it is a read-only site with one contact form.
  • Client work is not shown, for the same reason it is not shown here: it belongs to the client.

Need one built for you?

Personal Website is one of a small number of products built at SmallTown Studio. If you have a specific problem that an off-the-shelf app does not solve, describe it and you will get an honest answer on whether it is worth building.
